Dooley Communications helps bring Misericordia to centre stage - Dooley PR

We began working with Winnipeg’s Misericordia Health Centre Foundation in autumn 2010 and we’re proud to say that our work has increased outreach and awareness about the foundation.

When they first approached us, the Foundation was in need of improving its communications with both media and the public in Winnipeg and across Manitoba. Previously the Foundation office was without a communications specialist, so we helped build an entire public and donor outreach program right from the basics.

Over the past year we have developed and launched a fresh new website for the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation (, created a newsletter to be mailed to donors, put together a welcome package and assisted in the capital campaign redevelopment project.

A central part of the redevelopment work that we are doing with the Foundation is to increase exposure about the rooftop garden and four-season solarium that the health centre is building. To do that, we helped promote the annual Angel Squad fundraiser, a three-day event taking place in the early morning on the Maryland Bridge where volunteers don angel gowns and hail motorists to make donations to the Foundation.

Last year, we were happy to cooperate with the Health Centre’s communications department to help the Foundation increase its media exposure through radio, Internet, print media and television. By inviting cameras up to the area where Misericordia’s future rooftop garden will be built, the Foundation helped the community to better envision what the final product will look like. The media assisting in promoting Angel Squad and the garden project included, among others, CJOB, Hot103, QX104, Clear FM, 92 CITI FM, the Winnipeg Free Press, CTV, CITY TV’s Breakfast Television and Shaw TV.

Between the additional exposure and promotion of the rooftop garden, we were able to help Misericordia raise over $20,000 more than the amount that was raised from last year’s Angel Squad event!

Meeting our client’s needs

A vital part of our role is working closely with the Executive Director Patti Smith and other Foundation and Health Centre staff. In a very short period of time, we have succeeded in meeting the needs of the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation and are proud to be a part of the important work of the health centre.
